Christian Hißnauer, born 1973, studied Sociology, and Theater and Film Studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He conducted research in applied Media and Communication Studies, and worked at the Center for Interdisciplinary Media Studies and the German Department of the University of Göttingen.

During the first funding period of the Popular Seriality Research Unit (2010-2013), he was a post-doc research associate in the sub-project "Forms and Practices of Seriality in the ARD Police Procedural Tatort." During the second funding period (2013-2016), he is directing the sub-project "Real-Life Storytelling."
